NASDAP Round-up – Northland Te Tai Tokerau
Term 1, 2015
A major PLD event was held on Saturday 7 March when about 400 school leadership personnel (Principals, Senior Leadership, and Middle Managers from all over Northland were treated to a day with Michael Fullan, the renowned Canadian educational leadership expert. Superbly hosted by Bream Bay College (thanks to Wayne Buckland and his staff), this was an inspirational day of big-picture thinking.
The event was a superb experience, with Fullan in his almost understated style revealing a blueprint for successful 21st century learning and leadership. Fullan focused on the utmost importance of collaborative models, both within and across schools, the importance of active and involved leadership in developing teacher capacity and effecting pedagogical change, change models with a focus on the “group changing the group”, and the challenge of integrating technology into learning. He showcased some impressive successful case studies from his home country which were compelling.
Coming Up:
The Digital Horizons conference will be held in Whangarei on Friday 31 July, hosted by Whangarei Boys’ and Whangarei Girls’. Supported by Northland Principals’ association, spear-headed by Carolyn Bennett Principal of “Farnet”, this will be an opportunity for teachers to listen to keynote speakers attend practical workshops on a wide range of e-learning topics. Some workshops will be targeted at leadership.
Last year’s conference was very successful, with over 400 teachers present. Most of the workshops were run by teachers for teachers. Organisers are hoping to make the 2015 event even better. Many northland schools are having 31 July as a teacher only day to allow all the school staff to attend.
Are you attending?
Doing something successful? Can you /your school offer to run a workshop?
