Karen Stimson

I am currently Deputy Principal at Albany Senior High School and have been in this role for two years. We have a distributed leadership model and I thrive on the collaborative nature of this position as we work together in leading teacher and student learning. Albany Senior High School has been transformational in my growth from an accounting teacher to a senior leader. I have taught at Hauraki Plains College (my former school!), Hutt Valley High School and a stint over in England. When I’m not busy with uni readings you will find me running, playing netball, trying out new cafes and bars, windsurfing, hiking or off on a random weekend adventure.

I am an aspiring principal who aims to nurture, inspire and empower teachers to continue learning and developing their craft. I believe that ongoing teacher learning is pivotal to student learning. I strongly believe that every student can succeed and that no one should slip through the cracks. The national curriculum offers us the opportunity to personalise learning so all students can leave school having experienced success, have a goal for the future and a sense of where they fit in the world.
