2019

Unfortunately the 2019 meeting arranged and hosted by Bream Bay College did not go ahead this year due to a lack of registrations. This is disappointing but may have been due to timing.

9 MAY 2018

Our first PLD day for 2018 was held on 9 May at Whangarei Girls’. There were nineteen attendees from 11 schools, which was very pleasing. Topics covered in the day were:

2017

In Term 4 of 2017 we had a very worthwhile meeting day at Whangarei Girls’ High attended by 12 DPs/APs from around Tai Tokerau, from Kaitaia College in the North to Rodney College in the South. Presentations included:

  • Kim Rogers (Whangarei Girls’) – highlights from NASDAP Conference 2017
  • Alistair Gilbert (Whangarei Boys’) – Modern learning Environments and Pedagogical Challenges
  • Megan Petersen (Evaluation Associates) – Flipping the Appraisal Model
  • Andrew Easterbrook (Lawyer) – The Harmful Digital Communications ACT – implications for Schools, Teachers, and Students
  • Also presented by Kevin Dean was an update on NASDAP 2017 ANNUAL SURVEY findings regarding conditions for AP/DPs around the country. This engendered considerable discussion.

The presentation by Andrew Easterbrook on the Harmful Digital Communications ACT was extremely informative and enlightening for all present.

Kevin also gave an update from Senior Positions Advisory Council of PPTA. Discussion was forthright around what PPTA was doing for Senior Leaders in Secondary Schools.

There was strong support for NASDAP holding future Conferences in main centres to reduce cost and make transportation easier. A number of schools indicated the cost and difficulty of getting to New Plymouth had made them stay away. However Kim Rogers did re-iterate how fantastically rewarding the conference had been for her.

The day concluded with a determination to have two PLD days in 2018. A steering group has been formed to facilitate this. Our next day is likely to be early term 2, 2018. Kevin Dean will invite Senior Leaders to join a new Google Team shortly. Please do not hestitate to contact Kevin for any further information (kevin.dean@wghs.school.nz).
